I Believe! Glory to Thee, O God!

In Father George’s latest book he explores faith in our modern society. The text is in the form of a stream of joyousness and thought, one idea building on another to form a meaningful whole.

I would have to defer to Father George on his knowledge of scripture and church teachings and the format is more akin the style of the church elders with snippets of wisdom strung together to make a larger whole.

Father George has kindly agreed to let us translate a section of the book (please note this is not an official translation).

If you like to discuss this or other spiritual matters we would love to have your presence at any of the services throughout Scotland, Northern Ireland and Isle of Man.

Do! Glory To Thee, O God!

How to believe no matter what

I Believe! Glory to Thee, O God!

"As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead" (James 2:26).

  * *

As long as we breathe - we live, thank God - means to believe.

  * *

You can only thank the person. Nobody in their right mind will thank inanimate thing - object idea or a force. What will they say about a man like that would seriously thanked your car, personally addressing him with the words: "Thank you, dear and beloved" Mercedes ", for what brought me home safe and sound?"

  * *

You can, of course, respond with gratitude for the good things. Still, keep in mind those people who invented and made this a good thing for us. If, for example, recall with gratitude the company "Aeroflot", which organized our flight from Moscow to Sochi - comfortably and safely, we mean, of course, the team of people that make up this group. Technically people are good at their work and create favourable conditions for others. For this, and receive gratitude - not always personal, because we can not know in person those who helped us.

  * *

"I believe! Glory to Thee, O God "- said from the depths of the heart, because faith motivates us to give thanks, and thanks to - believe. What comes before - the mystery hidden in the human personality. To believe and give thanks - to one another inseparably.

  * *

Thank you for the fact that there is someone to trust, and trust in him whom have much to thank.

  * *

Man recognizes faith as trust with the first glimpse of consciousness. Favorite trusting child pulls hands to the mother as a sign of gratitude, because otherwise the baby can not express my feeling. Other people come and go like a shadow. The kid still can not analyze and do not realize that without maternal care will not survive. However, as the only trust her loved one and thanks simply because it is in the world is. This property of human nature.

  * *

When a man grows up and perceive the world in its reality, a sense of gratitude and confidence in the mother calm down, but will not disappear entirely. He must be reborn in a new capacity - filial trust and gratitude to God - the Creator of the world and to our Heavenly Father. Now comes a feeling of kinship in the joy of awareness. However, it does not meet the visible external confirmation, remaining inside the man, "as the realization of the expected and confidence in invisible ', which is called faith (Hebrews 11: 1)

  * *

Faith - a gift from God to take him, and give thanks for it personally. Clearly, God is not a person in the conventional sense, as any of us. It should be a special condition of the person, to meet the Lord and give Him thanks. The ability to have this, but not immediately realized.

  * *

Generations of people have gone to Abraham - the father of faith - and the generations after him. Faith flammable and faded in the people of Israel. Human effort - the righteous and the prophets - to the end to keep the faith in one God failed. God prepared the people to receive the Messiah - He sent the Son, in which people will be able to find the Father as He is.

  * *

The Son of God became man, and faith - the gift of God - comes in the framework of the human person of Christ. That special condition that we talked about are implemented. Humanity "learned" the deity of Christ, and vice versa, the deity to "recognize" the humanity. His personality - divine Hypostasis - "met" a two natures - divine and human. This hypostatic or personal mystery of Christ. But now people can see the face of God in Him.

  * *

The mystery of self-determination for the individual characteristic of all - human or divine. God does not interfere in humanity and does not violate the "rights" of our personality. Christ - the identity of the divine and that of continually. His hypostatic or personal decision according to the will of the Father - became man to give a person an opportunity to be deified.

  * *

For man is a personal decision to accept deification - believe in the deity of Christ and receive His Spirit. In fact, this should be a thanksgiving to God for He sent the Son, in whom humanity is realized our ability to deification.

  * *

The circle is closed, and the sacrament of thanksgiving accomplished. A matter of faith becomes a part of the sacrament, or this ordinance. Christ instituted it at the party with his disciples before his arrest, trial and crucifixion. And left to send the Spirit - the Comforter (John 16: 7), in which he dwells with the faithful to Him anytime, anywhere.

  * *

Thanks to God for the reward of faith in Him - the central point, the culmination of a human life. Man was created by God to it display the kindness and goodness of God. Not like the soulless and unrequited mirror and refracted through the personal perception. Man is able to perceive and to make the likeness of God is enough to reveal the glory of God in creation.

  * *

When a person "grows" a belief in God, it looks like the incarnate Son of God - Christ. Icon - transmitting means closeness of man to God. This proximity desires God Himself gives us the kind of person who is best suited for God's incarnation.

  * *

The icon by Andrei Rublev "Trinity" are three angels in the form of young men huddled under a tree around the table with a bowl. Theologians speak of "eternal council" of the Trinity - the Father of the Son of agreement in the presence of the Spirit. Son wants to incarnate and become a victim of the human race, which has yet to be created things. The human image, as seen from the icon, accepted by God as the basis for the creation of the world and man.

  * *

Usually, I thank you, when I got the joy, good mood, solving problems, the prospect in the future. Thank you when there is good! For many years it was looking for and did not acquire it. It was, in part, but not for long. Now, "I feel good!" Divine condition ...

  * *

"And God saw that it was good" (Genesis 1: 10,12,18,21,25, 31). And well it was in God's presence. He sees things from the "inside", in their very essence. External appearance is preceded by God's view of the thing. God created, He looks like from the outside, and confirms the beauty of different things and states of the world.

  * *

There is a creation of man. It conceived the incarnate God, so the man of God is available and the ability to assess the benefit of the world and their presence in it.

Also, he held a meeting with the expectation of the Creator and a sense of joy when she took.

  * *

God created man in the "enabling environment" for the perception of yourself. "Religious feeling" as it is called, has the ability and the desire to create a man like God, and notice the beauty.

  * *

Creation geniuses humanity show the perfection of man as man sees it. Icon - the perfection of man as God sees it.

  * *

Comparing, for example, the "David" by Michelangelo, or "Mona Lisa," da Vinci or Rublev "Trinity", we see that everywhere there is an image of the perfect man. However, the human eye to perfection is closed in itself - the Mona Lisa and David are fine, but are not aware of its beauty. Being unable to quicken, the authors do not give them that.

  * *

The icon image of the real author - God, so you can pray before an icon and hear the answer. Icon brings us the spiritual impetus that "charges" our spirit is divine vision. God's view of perfection is not closed in itself - he comes into the world through the icon. The principle of the icon - is the "principle of person," as he called heroes of the faith, the ascetic and spiritual writer of the last century Archimandrite Sophronius (sugar). "I believe, and I thank" God as a person-a person, not a soulless idea or higher intelligence.

  * *

Think of absurd thanksgiving vehicle or aircraft that brought us home safe and sound. As absurd to believe, to pray and thank bogaprintsip, idea or reason. While all of this is useful on the path to the realization of human faith in the ability to give life deity. Deity is fundamentally different from humanity, unable to quicken. Therefore, replacing the scientific principles, statues and paintings in the knowledge of God comes "the principle of the icon."

My God, "Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, not philosophers and scholars" inspired Pascal that he expressed the thought of his personality, which became the guiding star of faith is for many of the "philosophers and scientists."
